Terdjang Merdeka Report Text
Assalamu'alaikum. Hello. I will tell you about what I do at school around Indonesian Independence Day.
SMAN 3 Bandung (SMA = Senior High School) residents commemorate Indonesian Independence day by held a competition event named Terdjang Merdeka (Teruskan Semangat Juang Kemerdekaan). There are competition for teachers and students. The competition held from August 17 until August 20. The students competed in August 20, and before that time, the teachers had competed in some competition.
Student's competition are: balap karung (bag race) for 8 boys and girls, balap sarung (sarong race) for 3 girls, estafet tepung (flour relay) for 7 boys and girls, tarik tambang (tug of war) for boys and girls (but in different team), bola air sarung (sarong water ball), and volleyball students vs teachers. I competed in balap karung (bag race) and balap sarung (sarong race), but didn't win neither bag race nor sarong race, though in group. But, that was doesn't matter because we had alot of fun and became closer to each other as classmates or family at school. There is also a good news that our class' (X5) sarong water ball team won 3rd place, and our flour relay team won 1st place. Later, we stored the throphies in our class.
Besides all the competition that mostly used physical ability and power, there was Parade and Guessing Game. Parade is an event when the class dressed and make some decorative things related to the class theme about some situation before and after Independence Proclamation that given before. My class got the theme about Japan's surrender to the ally. We prepared all things suddenly and hurried, but at least we did it with parents' help.
Guessing Game is an event that we didn't know before, so we were rather startled at the beginning, but then we feel enthusiastic, even we can answer one of the question. The prizes for this competition are snacks and stationeries that we distributed to all the classmates.
Almost at the end of the events, before the winner announcement, there is a game that made for big-team that formed by merged 2 class in a team, Jaga Lilin (keep the candle). Each team had to keep their candle light on during the trip from the center to the sidelines, while struggling to protect the candle from the water balloons attack from the committee. X5 was merged with X6, and we succeeded to keep the light on until reached the sidelines, although most of us became wet.
We had so much fun, energy, refreshment, etc. that day. We also gain more insight or knowledge about independence day. I hope we can do all stuffs like that again.
